I’m creaming in my paints because two of my favorite producers, Bassnectar and Amp Live are on “Ugly“, a little teaser off Bassnectar’s new album, VAVA VOOM (out April 10th). The Amp Live effect on “Ugly” is a snare booming, hop-hop leaning sound, and according to Bassnectar “[they] created a little banger to express how much we love it when music gets nasty.” I only stay at a show if the music is nasty. If you’re in the Bay Area, Bassnectar is playing in San Jose on May 5th. And be sure to check out Amp, his sets are always off the chain.

Bassnectar just “released” (gave away) a remix EP from his latest album, Divergent Spectrum, a very aptly titled record. Divergent Spectrum rides the full gamut of Bassnectar’s sound, from pretty bass from space, to straight up bangers. Although the pretty melodic shit that Bassnectar punctuates his shows with are a nice reprieve from the sledge hammer of bangers, me personally, I like the bangers. One of those bangers from Divergent Spectrum was Bassnectar and Jantsen’s “Red Step.” LA’s Steve Steve Aoki shows this tune proper respect by giving it just enough trendy-LA big-house sound that oscillates with Bassnectar & Jantsen’s carpet-bombing of basslines. Now don’t go all A.D.D. on me, because this remix keeps evolving and evolving, saving the best for last.

Bassnectar released his new album this week, Divergent Spectrum, 14 songs of varying styles of bass music. The mood shifts from playful to visceral to straight-up bangers. I’m highlighting Bassnectar’s remix of Gogol Bordello’s “Immigraniada” because this is one of the many tracks on the newness that shows that Bassnectar is far from his creative peak.
